Frontend UX/UI Designer


Immersion Active, located in the beautiful heart of Frederick Maryland’s historic district, is an integrated omnichannel marketing and digital strategy company specialized in marketing to the 55 plus market, in variety of verticals including property development, home care, healthcare, and health & wellness retail. We are currently seeking a Lead Frontend UX Designer.

This position will be a key driver for recommending and implementing new design approaches, and new design tools to build and design effective marketing programs [driving a quality customer experience].

Strong leadership and innovation of graphics and digital design, and development work to ensure client/customer objectives are successfully satisfied and completed on time and within the project scope.

Accountable for the visual customer-facing brand, graphic, digital and online design work across various platforms including website, landing pages, social, email, e-newsletters, ePubs and other digital platforms.

The candidate in this position should also have an understanding of brand design, including designing for logos, signage, flyers, newsletters, brochures and a variety of other traditional media platforms.

This person should be a design-forward thinker, with strong skill sets in driving design, with some basic technology experience [HTML, CSS, some JavaScript] to navigate conversations with backend designers and other technical team members. This position serves as a liaison between marketing needs and technology best practices.

Responsibilities also include meeting commitments, effective communication and capability to interact and coordinate with various internal team members and on occasion, external client stakeholders.

Ability to share design and development vision with C-Suite stakeholders is critical to this role.

Drives the documentation process and protocols for design work, including creative approach, features and focus of the design work to reach the audience, fulfill client goals and meet and exceed industry best practice techniques and outcomes.

Coordinate with team members to get the work delivered with high quality, and on time.

This position reports to the VP, Integrated Marketing Solutions


  • Follow and drive best practice designs
  • Design of client external-facing customer websites (responsive design), landing pages, social creative (memes, digital ads), email/e-newsletters and other digital platforms (e.g. ePubs) utilizing core digital user experience approach.
  • Driving a graphic design approach for tradition media (brochures, flyers, signage, logos) for the team by using the industry-leading design and experience approach.
  • Knowledge and understanding of both current and upcoming design techniques
  • Experience with typography
  • Experience and expertise using Adobe CS Design Suite, (Dreamweaver, PhotoShop, Illustrator, Fireworks, InDesign).
  • Good experience with HTML5, CSS3, and some JavaScript associated with front end design work
  • The design look and feel, comps for the digital platform and traditional marketing materials – as needed.
  • Continued technology innovation to determine the best technology approach for digital and online design, as well as fundamental technologies for traditional marketing.
  • Lead conversations with key client stakeholders and C-Suite executives to showcase design strategy and UX design business results, to meet client goals and objectives.
  • Participate in design reviews with stakeholders as needed

  • Regular communication and collaboration with colleagues
  • A strong understanding of customer-based design principles, responsive design, and general customer experience through design fundamentals [understand the customer journey in regards to design]
  • A strong understanding of how to translate requirements into a design for websites, landing pages, social, advertising, traditional marketing collateral material.
  • Present designs to internal stakeholders and incorporate feedback and revisions
  • Create infographics, charts, icons as needed for website, web landing pages, social needs, e-newsletters, traditional marketing pieces [as needed]
  • Provide continued design enhancements or updates to existing client designs to enhance the user experience, improve the success in achieving client goals.
  • Set up and run design testing (screen capture, 5-second testing, etc.) to determine best design approach to reach client goals
  • Have an eye for quality design, attention to detail and ability to match corporate style guidelines as well as generate fresh, emotionally resonate design work


  • Enthusiastic about creating new [design] products and enhancing existing [design] products
  • Understand core design and functionality best practice approach online [why links should be blue, a button should act like a button, and less is more]
  • Be able to work on several different projects and teams at the same time
  • Flexibility to pivot and quickly deliver wireframes, prototypes, mockups, etc.
  • Ability to lead design discussions and ideation sessions
  • Ability to communicate and effectively share design decisions in a group critique
  • Maintain a broad understanding of our systems, customers, and business goals as well as a deep understanding of how these fit into the context of your team.
  • In-depth knowledge of how to create and execute usability studies
  • In-depth knowledge of the process for creating and using personas the lead design decisions
  • Proficient in Photoshop/Illustrator/Sketch, InVision, wireframing tools
  • Understanding of HTML/CSS/JavaScript [related to UX Design]
    • Drawing, sketching, and whiteboarding skills

    • Strong understanding of design and usability principles – for digital first, but also for other traditional marketing efforts

    • Diploma or degree in graphics and/or digital design, interaction design (or equivalent work experience)
    • At least 5-7 years of hands-on experience in multi-channel, cutting-edge graphic and digital design
    • A strong portfolio with examples of client work
    • Highly proficient with design tools such as Sketch, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc., Adobe CS Design Suite
    • Experience with prototyping and wireframe tools such as Axure or Balsamiq
    • Experience using BootStrap
    • Experience coding for responsive design – mobile, tablet and desktop approaches
    • Understanding of design needs for 508 compliance/web accessibility [a plus]
    • Knowledge of Email, e-newsletter & ePub design creation
    • Strong communication skills – Ability to effectively articulate design decisions & concepts


    • 3-5 years of traditional marketing collateral and brand design – a plus
    • User Design Experience Certification – preferred, or 5+ years proven user experience designs for web and other digital platforms
