Ann Taylor said to plan boomer unit
The New York Times , 8/13/07
Abstract:
Ann Taylor wants to grow up.
The clothing chain, known for its prim clothing for career women in their 30s and 40s, is developing a new casual apparel chain for the older, baby boomer generation, according to people briefed on the matter.
With the move, the company will leap into an overlooked and risky market that has tripped up several competitors, like Gap.
The new chain, set to open in late 2008, will be run by Mark Mendelson, the former chief merchandising officer at the Jones Apparel Group, the clothing conglomerate behind brands like Ann Klein, Jones New York and Nine West, these people said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the concept is still officially secret.
