Minivan pioneer Chrysler hopes new designs reinvigorate slumping segment

Chrysler, which invented the minivan in 1983 and ushered in a whole new way for moms to take their children to soccer practice, hopes to reinvigorate the segment with two all-new designs.

Company officials say the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country, which were unveiled in San Diego, will more than satisfy the changing needs of the 21st century American family...

...Chrysler's best bet may be aging baby boomers. While baby boomers are notoriously image conscious and resist anything that suggest they are "settling down," they also respond well to practically and functionality, two qualities that the new Chrysler and Dodge minivans have in spades, analysts say.
