Looking for Work in Your Fifties

The Wall Street Journal, 11/5/09

Abstract:

Until 18 months ago, I had a terrific job with a wonderful nonprofit organization — a position created for me. I completed some consulting work and helped with pro bono projects for some local nonprofits.

Now, slip-sliding my way through my 50s, I cannot help but wonder: Where is the job search leading? What will be the long-term impact? How long can I sustain this state of limbo and still be confident of recovery? Is the successful part of my career essentially over?
