Five companies Google might buy next

The Wall Street Journal, 9/18/09

Abstract:

Google has been on an acquisition tear. First with its offer to buy ON2 technologies, then with its recent purchase of reCaptcha and now with rumors of it eyeing business-to-business online video platform provider Brightcove.

With Yahoo and Microsoft joining forces in their search efforts, Google is looking to transform its leadership in the search space into other endeavors ranging from enterprise software to b2b online video, online health resources, and more.

My methodology in selecting the five companies below is:

a.)  The company has to either plug a hole in Google’s offerings or catapult Google to No. 1 in the category

b.) The company has to be cheap from either an earnings growth perspective or a balance sheet perspective so even if Google did not buy the company it still a good investment at these levels.
